Where is the Heritage Corridor?
The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encompasses the communities and counties along the historic 97-mile Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. The Heritage Corridor spans from the Chicago Portage Area just southwest of Chicago to LaSalle-Peru including the counties of Will, Grundy, LaSalle and Putnam. The region conveniently located along I-55 from Chicago to Joliet along I-80 west to LaSalle-Peru.

Shop Antiques and Boutiques in the Heritage Corridor

When you step into a smaller store, like one of the many antiques and boutique shops along the I&M Canal Heritage Corridor, you’ll feel a bit of nostalgia and anticipation. It’s the way shopping was meant to be. Where customers service reigns supreme, most likely from the owner of the store. Where on the next rack, or across the store on another shelf, you might find the perfect treasure that you must have. Where you can’t wait to brag about these amazing stores to your friends. 

Each of these towns along the Illinois & Michigan Canal have amazing stores where you can find your treasure. 

Here is a list of the shops you must visit: 

229 Estates – Ottawa: Estate hunters that bring vintage, antique, and unique items to their store every other day. Everything from books, tools, furniture, glassware, jewelry, and more. 

A Mess of Things – Ottawa: Are you searching for this or that? Then you’ll find it at A Mess of Things. Vintage, shabby chic, repurposed, recycled, home décor, clothing, accessories and more. 

Betty’s – Morris: Betty’s specializes in vintage and new clothing and accessories, as well as vintage home décor and vintage vinyl record albums. Plus, you never know what will be on that TV. 

Clarks Run Antiques – Utica: Utica’s largest antique store, featuring rusty , old, recycles, weathered, refinished and shabby items. Wide selection of gifts and home goods. Shop and enjoy a glass at their wine bar.

Clarks Run Creek Wine & Gifts – Utica: Sister store of Clark Run Antiques. Wine tasting, gift shopping, and relaxing. After shopping, enjoy a drink in their upstairs lounge.

Countryside Village – Braidwood: The variety of shopping through various stories in a village, all under one roof. Home décor, gourmet food, kitchenware, gadgets, fabrics (including over 1,500 bolts of the finest quality fabrics) and more. 

DNA Athletics – Plainfield: Active lifestyle outfitter to the experienced athlete, the newbie, and everyone in between. Reach your next athletic goal, and make sure you're properly dressed (and well dressed) for it. 

H&H Mercantile/ Veranda – Streator: H&H Mercantile features antiques, jewelry, collectibles, housewares, small furniture and more. The Veranda features vintage vinyl, fine arts and collectibles. 

ItIsAmazing – Joliet: ItIsAmazing is a truly amazing boutique store, selling women’s apparel, men’s & Women’s accessories, some children’s clothing and shoes. During the winter months, they also feature small accent furniture and consignment items. 

Jobst Monuments & Gifts – Ottawa: Frequently referred to as the “best kept secret in Ottawa,” Jobst features a true variety of items including lawn & garden décor, religious & bereavement gifts, Saturday, kinetic art, hummingbird feeders, gazing balls, wind chimes and more. Truly something for everyone. 

K’s Secret Garden – Streator: K’s is your key unique gifts and creations. Handmade soaps, lotions, pottery, scarves and more. The store also carries a variety of Fair-Trade products and seasonal décor. Take home a sweatshirt or t-shirt that you can personalize yourself. 

Lock 16 Café & Gift Shop – Lasalle: The Lock 16 Gift Shop boasts an array of colorful florals, whimsical household treasures, cards, books, interesting souvenirs and clever gifts for children. 

Mabel’s Market – Lemont: Mabel’s Market is a warm and friendly shop offering customers one-of-a-kind vintage, rustic chic, and locally made wares for your home and self. They pride themselves in thoughtfully repurposed furniture, décor and jewelry. 

Paraphernalia Antiques – Wilmington: This is the original antiques shop in Wilmington, specializing in estate jewelry. There are three storefronts of general antiques and European imports. 

Prairie Fox Books – Ottawa: Local book stores that offer friendly atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and hosts/sponsors multiple events such as author talks, book signings, book clubs, and community events. They also are the home of Sonny the Cat. 

Rock Paper Scissors – Ottawa: Education. Imagination. Inspiration. Rock Paper Scissors provide a wide array of educational toys, games, school supplies and ore for children of all ages. 

Smokey Row Antiques – Lemont: When walking into this store you can expect to be greeted by very friendly staff as well as a wide variety of unique antiques. This store has been a mainstay in Lemont and definitely worth checking out. 

Thimbles – Lockport: Rated a Better Home & Garden “top 10 Quilt Shop.” Thimbles specializes in Bernina and Baby Lock sewing machines. They offer over 3,000 bolts of quilt fabric, along with expertise from their highly educated staff. They offer a huge amount of sewing classes from beginners quilting to advance techniques. 

Weeta’s Boutiques – Ottawa: Weeta’s Boutiques specializes in unique ladies’ fashions. You will receive personal attention with one-on-one consultants to help pick out the perfect pieces for you. They also offer a full line of accessories to complete any outfit.
