Where is the Heritage Corridor?
The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encompasses the communities and counties along the historic 97-mile Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. The Heritage Corridor spans from the Chicago Portage Area just southwest of Chicago to LaSalle-Peru including the counties of Will, Grundy, LaSalle and Putnam. The region conveniently located along I-55 from Chicago to Joliet along I-80 west to LaSalle-Peru.

Historic Smokey Bear Portraits & Films at Midewin

For one day only, historic Smokey Bear portraits by artist Rudolph Wendelin will be on display in the Welcome Center at the USDA Forest Service - Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. Original Smokey Bear 16 mm films from the 1960s & early 1970s will be shown. The event honoring Smokey Bear's 75th year in fire prevention will be held from 8:00AM-3:00PM on Saturday, May 4th. See: http://tinyurl.com/yyrprb4z There will be a Conservation Expo; Farm History Hikes & Nature Hikes; Coloring & other Smokey Bear activities for children at the Iron Bridge Trailhead. An information booth & fire prevention game will be at the Wauponsee Trailhead on Hoff Road. This event will be part of the 13th Annual Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor Festival. The festival is hosted on the first Saturday in May by 13 communities along the 90-mile linear museum from Joliet to Towanda.
