Where is the Heritage Corridor?
The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encompasses the communities and counties along the historic 97-mile Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. The Heritage Corridor spans from the Chicago Portage Area just southwest of Chicago to LaSalle-Peru including the counties of Will, Grundy, LaSalle and Putnam. The region conveniently located along I-55 from Chicago to Joliet along I-80 west to LaSalle-Peru.

Joliet Iron Works Tour

On November 4, you’ll get a chance to discover the interesting history of Joliet, such as why the city has the nickname “City of Stone and Steel,” and can hear the stories of the men who worked at the Joliet Iron Works Historic site. Local history buffs are in for a treat with this insightful tour of the blue-collar origins of Joliet.

The tour runs from 1pm – 2:30pm, a naturalist will lead the 1-mile tour and guide you through the paved walk way of what remains of this once-thriving industrial plant. This fascinating tour will give you some insight about iron and steel production and how it plays a big part in the foundation of the history of Joliet.

This event is free and is for ages 12 & older. No registration is required. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should mention his or her request when registering, or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
