There is a lot of reasons why you should plan your next adventure to the Starved Rock Area. Eagle Watch Weekend: January 25 & 26, 2020

The Eagle Watch Weekend is a two-day event, which celebrates the American Bald Eagle in Illinois. This event will offer many programs, activities and exhibits occurring simultaneously at three locations: The Starved Rock Lodge, Illinois Waterway Visitors and the Starved Rock Visitors Center, which they are all within a short driving distance. 

You could hop-on and hop-off a trolley that is conveniently connected to all venues. A $2.00 all-day armband will be available for purchase on the trolley.

Eagle Trolley Tour: Throughout the Month of January and February

Starved Rock is a beautiful place to visit during the winter time. You can join them for their Eagle Trolley Tours happening all January and February month long. These tours include a stop at the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center for an eagle viewing on their observation deck, and an educational presentation on eagles. 

This tour will include lunch in their restaurant from a special menu during the week, and brunch on Sunday. Remember to dress warm!

Two Progressive Dinner Through the Starved Rock Area 

2 Rivers Ride & Dine Progressive Dinner will start on January 9, 2020, filled with wine, beer and bourbon tasting. 

You will start the night out by checking in at The Red Dog Grill at 5:30pm. Then, hop on the shuttle, which will take you on the 2 Rivers Ride & Dine Progressive Dinner. You will then make your way to a wine tasting paired with appetizers at Catseye Wine Bar

After that, you will head over to The Lone Buffalo where your dinner will be served along with a beer pairing. The shuttle will then return you to The Red Dog Grill for dessert and their famous bourbon cocktail! 

If you want to turn this experience into a long weekend, book an overnight package at one of Harbor Inn's cottages. To dine is only $70 per person. For two to dine and stay overnight, the cost is only $260 per couple (plus room tax). Other nights are available including February 13, March 12, and April 2.

The Trolley Trio Progressive Dinner is a similar experience. On January 8th, 2020, you will meet at Starved Rock Lodge in Utica, IL at 4:45pm to check-in and board the trolley. You will stop at Star Union Spirits Distillery in Peru, Illinois for specialty cocktails and appetizers.   

Try a taste of southern cooking with dinner and drinks at Cajun Connection in Utica, Illinois. Then concluding the evening at Starved Rock Lodge with dessert and drinks. 

There will be an overnight package for two where you can enjoy the weekend at the Starved Rock Lodge. With an extra $15, a breakfast voucher will be included. 

The overnight package is $255 per couple and if you are wanting to stick with just the dinner, $75 per person. Other nights are available such as February 12, March 11, and April 8.

Owl Prowl Weekend: March 13-15 

On Friday and Saturday, Orinthologist Steve Bailey will be holding owl programs and owl walks. During the program, Steve will have some owl specimens, feathers and pellets for you to observe. 

He will try to call in a Screech, Barred and Great Horned Owls. And maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to see a nest of uncommon wintering owls. 

The price will be $10 per person. Everyone should plan on bringing a flashlight, and be sure to dress warm for the weather. 

On Saturday and Sunday, “Hoo” Haven Wildlife and Education Center from Durand, IL will be there with their owls for a presentation. The different programs begin at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm in the LaSalle Room of the Lodge. Adults are $5, children 10 & under are $3.
