Will County Origins

The Will County Historical Society

A comprehensive history on the pioneer settlement era of Will County's history, from the days of the Native Americans into the 1870's. Based on Townships, each will focus on the early settlers, industry, and communities specific to that locale. Maps will be featured prominently including a rare 1862 Will County view and individual Township views from a 1873 County Atlas. Adults/$3; Seniors, Students, Military/$2, Children/$1. The Urge to Embellish

This exhibition includes different types of objects from the various collections of the Illinois State Museum. Some objects will be recognized as "art" (ie. Painting, drawing, or sculpture). Others are "decorative" while others are "functional" or "utilitarian." The majority of the objects were made by non-professional "artists,"including children and all of the objects epitomize the basic human impulse to embellish or decorate our surroundings.
