Unlike other features of trees, bark is always present. But how much do we really know about this protective covering? Enjoy a winter hike and learn how bark grows, why the same species looks different depending on the age of the tree, and some tips for identifying trees just by their bark. Fee: Free! Age: Ages 8 or older. Registration required by Thursday, December 17, by calling 815.722.9470 or online: https://apm.activecommunities.com/.../beautiful-bark.../7267 Please dress in layers for the cold, crisp weather and wear grippy shoes as trails may be slippery in spots this season. The hike will be 1-1.5 miles on paved trails and natural surfaces across uneven terrain. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should submit a request online (https://www.reconnectwithnature.org/americans-with...) no later than 48 hours before the program.
