A mid-1800’s architectural wonder helped make Chicago the city it is today.  The 96-mile Illinois & Michigan Canal (I&M Canal) connected the Great Lakes in Bridgeport, Chicago to the Illinois River at LaSalle-Peru, and amazingly unique towns sprung up that maintain their authentic charm to this date.

Pontiac, Illinois is known for its historic swinging bridges, friendly people, and tourist attractions. Time Magazine has called Pontiac, Illinois one of the best small towns in America. Pontiac is a popular visit destination as it home to a fabulous collection of outdoor painted murals, nine ‘Looking for Lincoln’ heritage sites, five Route 66 heritage sites, and three swinging pedestrian bridges. Not to mention four wonderful museums; Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame & Museum, Livingston County War Museum, Museum of the Gilding Arts, and the Pontiac-Oakland Automobile Museum and Resource Center. Don’t forget to bring your boat or canoe along as there is a launch ramp at Play Park. Plus, fishing is available on the Vermilion River.
